Indian govt bans use of single-use plastic from July 1; manufacturers unhappy

The Indian government has decided to ban all kinds of single-use plastic products. The government has banned the manufacture, sale and use of identified single-use plastic items like plates, cups, straws, trays, and polystyrene from July 1, 2022.

India's biggest dairy group, Amul, has written to the government urging it to delay a planned ban on tiny plastic straws, saying the move will have a "negative impact" on farmers and milk consumption in the world's biggest producer of the commodity.

Another company wrote to the government about the fact that alternatives for straws, imported paper and biodegradable variants were around 250% more expensive.
