MPS notifies families of student’s death

4th-grade student’s death not COVID-related, message says

MARSHALL — Marshall Public Schools notified families that a fourth-grade student died Sunday.

An email message sent to families in the district said the student had health complications, but the student’s death was not related to COVID-19.

MPS Superintendent Jeremy Williams said Monday that crisis team members would be on hand to support students who needed it.

“It is with great sorrow we have learned that on Nov. 14, 2021, a fourth-grade student at Southview Elementary passed away as a result of health complications,” Williams said in the message to families. The message did not identify the student.

At this point the student’s family has not released an official cause of death, Williams said. However, he said information the school district had received from the family indicated it was not COVID-related.

“We appreciate your thoughts and prayers for the family, the staff, the students and Southview Elementary during this difficult time,” Williams said to MPS families.
