Pickerington Local Schools said counselors will be available Wednesday at Pickerington High School North after the death of a ninth-grade student.

The district said Andres Nunes Cano passed away due to an unknown medical condition.

"We are deeply saddened to share that one of our Pickerington High School North ninth-grade students, Andres Nunez Cano, passed away due to an unknown medical condition. Andres provided a positive influence in our school and was involved in volleyball, soccer, and orchestra. Our hearts go out to family, friends, and our community," the district said.

The district said school counselors, New Horizons counselors, and Grace Fellowship Pastors will be at the school on Wednesday for students and staff.

"We understand that students and staff will be affected by the loss of Andres in different ways. People often experience grief reactions in "waves" that come and go. Often, grief is most intense soon after someone has died. But some people will not feel their grief right away. They may feel numbness, shock, or disbelief. It can take time to experience the reality of grief and loss. If you are grieving, it can help to express your feelings and get support, making sure to take care of yourself," the district said.

The district said parents concerned about their child's grief and loss can reach out at 614-830-2700 to get them connected with a member of the support team.
