Oakland Elementary School student dies

An Oakland Elementary School student died earlier this month. 

No information about the child was available, according to a school division spokeswoman. 

Anthonette Ward, the division's community engagement officer, said the school's principal, Candace Myrick, did not send an email to the school community at the request of the child's family. 

"The student's family members are highly private and have asked members of our SPS staff to respect their privacy," Ward said in an email. "As such, we do not have any additional information to share at this time."
